ReSound Sensia Hearing Aids in Centennial

When you're at a busy dinner or a crowded event, the voice you want to hear isn't always the loudest one in the room. Many hearing aids struggle with this, sometimes boosting a louder voice at the next table or mistaking background music for the sound you care about. The ReSound Sensia is designed to solve exactly this problem. It follows a simple, natural cue: people usually look at the person they want to hear. By focusing on the speaker in front of you, Sensia helps you stay engaged in the conversation that matters to you.

A Smarter Way to Focus on Conversation

ReSound Sensia is the newest premium hearing aid family from GN Hearing, the company behind ReSound. It builds on the previous ReSound Vivia while keeping the same small size and long battery life. At The Audiology METHOD, we offer this advanced technology to help you follow conversations more easily in the noisy, unpredictable settings of everyday life.

Many of today's hearing aids use artificial intelligence (technology that learns to recognize patterns in sound) to reduce background noise. However, AI alone can't always tell which voice you want to hear. Sensia combines three technologies into one automatic system called Intelligent All-Around. Together, they identify your listening environment, focus on the speaker in front of you, and reduce the distracting sounds around that person. According to ReSound, this approach is designed to bring forward the conversation you are trying to follow rather than simply locking onto whatever voice is loudest.

What Makes ReSound Sensia Different

Three Technologies Working Together

The Intelligent All-Around system brings together three key features, each with its own job:

  • AcoustIQ acts as the hearing aid's "listening brain," identifying the type of environment you're in and deciding which features to turn on
  • A four-microphone beamformer uses microphones on both hearing aids to create a focused listening zone toward the person you're facing
  • DNN denoising uses a Deep Neural Network, a type of AI trained on large amounts of real-world sound, to reduce competing voices and distractions around the person you want to hear

Focus Where You Look

The four-microphone beamformer works like a spotlight for sound. Because both hearing aids share information, they can create a precise listening zone in front of you. At the same time, Sensia preserves some lower-pitched sound from around you so you keep your sense of where sounds are coming from. This spatial awareness helps your brain process sound more naturally and keeps you aware of your surroundings.

In an internal ReSound study of 20 hearing aid users, participants heard equally loud speech from the front and from the side. ReSound reports that Sensia made the front speaker the most audible for 80% of participants, while a competing AI hearing aid more often favored the person off to the side. Independent researchers at Hörzentrum Oldenburg found similar results when both speakers were equally loud. It's worth noting these studies measured which speaker was easiest to hear, not how many more words participants understood.

The Right Noise Reduction for Each Situation

Not all noise is the same, so Sensia uses two different types of noise reduction. When someone is speaking in a very noisy setting, the AI-based DNN denoising takes over to clean up the sound around their voice. When the noise has no speech in it, like a vacuum cleaner or a fan, Sensia switches to ReSound's established Noise Tracker II system instead. This matters because speech-trained AI can produce unwanted sound distortions when there's no voice to focus on. Sensia automatically chooses the better approach and switches as your environment changes.

Accurate Sound Recognition

A hearing aid can only help if it correctly recognizes what's happening around you and turns on the right features. ReSound reports that AcoustIQ correctly identifies environments with 91% accuracy, and that in its testing, Sensia was 88% more accurate than the closest premium competitor at both recognizing environments and activating the appropriate features. These are manufacturer-reported results, so we consider them alongside each patient's individual experience.

Sensia also intentionally does not automatically switch into a music setting. As ReSound points out, a hearing aid can't know whether you want to hear the band at a jazz club or the friend sitting across from you. Instead, you stay in control of when music processing is used.

Connectivity and Modern Features

Bluetooth LE Audio Streaming

Sensia uses Bluetooth LE Audio, a newer and more energy-efficient version of Bluetooth. You can stream phone calls, music, podcasts, and other audio directly from compatible Apple and Android devices to your hearing aids.

Auracast Working Right Now

Auracast is a new broadcast audio technology that lets public venues like theaters, airports, and places of worship send sound directly to your hearing aids. Unlike some hearing aids that are only "Auracast-ready" and still waiting on a future update, Sensia's Auracast feature is fully functional at launch. In a ReSound user study comparing Auracast with a traditional hearing loop, participants rated Auracast 8 out of 10 compared with 6 out of 10 for the loop, describing the sound as fuller and clearer. At least one receiver-in-ear model also includes a telecoil, a small component that connects to existing hearing loop systems.

ReSound Smart 3D App

The ReSound Smart 3D app lets you adjust volume, switch programs, and personalize your settings from your smartphone. It also includes a built-in Auracast Assistant, which lets you find and join available broadcasts with a single tap.

Options for Cochlear Implant Users

For people who wear a Cochlear Nucleus implant in one ear and a hearing aid in the other (known as bimodal hearing), ReSound Sensia Bimodal is designed to work together with the implant's sound processor for a more connected listening experience.

Styles, Technology Levels, and Battery Performance

ReSound Sensia comes in a wide range of styles to fit different hearing needs and preferences. Options include a rechargeable micro receiver-in-ear (microRIE), receiver-in-ear models using size 312 or size 13 disposable batteries, rechargeable in-the-canal and in-the-ear custom models, a wireless in-the-canal model, and a non-wireless completely-in-canal model for maximum discretion.

The features you receive depend on the style and technology level. The Sensia 9 microRIE includes the full Intelligent All-Around system with automatic AI noise reduction. Sensia 7 offers AI processing and directional focus through a hearing-in-noise program that you select manually. Custom in-ear models include ReSound's directional focus technology but do not include AI noise reduction at launch. We'll help you understand these differences so you can choose the best balance of features and budget.

Despite adding new AI processing, Sensia keeps the same small size and battery performance as the previous generation. ReSound rates the rechargeable microRIE and custom rechargeable models for at least 24 hours of use, with up to approximately 30 hours depending on how you use them. A new, smaller premium portable charger is also available for recharging on the go.

Get Started with ReSound Sensia at The Audiology METHOD

We fit ReSound Sensia hearing aids using evidence-based best practices to ensure you receive maximum benefit from this advanced technology. Our comprehensive fitting process includes Real Ear Speech Mapping verification testing, which measures the exact sound your hearing aids deliver in your unique ear canals. This precision fitting approach ensures your devices are delivering the correct amount of amplification for your specific hearing loss.

During your hearing aid evaluation, we'll discuss your communication goals and the listening situations that challenge you most. We don't select hearing aids based on marketing claims alone. We evaluate your hearing loss, speech understanding, real-world listening needs, and preferences before determining whether ReSound Sensia or another technology is the best match for you. We also use follow-up optimization to confirm the technology is truly improving your ability to hear in the situations that matter.
